I’d like to see a castle, a volcano and a beach please...Edinburgh tourist attractions won't leave you wanting more
Edinburgh tourist attractions are second to none. There are so many things to do, time is your greatest obstacle. How much do you have? Moreover, what are you interested in?! Edinburgh, the city with something for everyone, will satisfy culture vultures, history buffs, romantics, party-animals and adventurers alike. I have lived here for 25 years and I am never bored. In fact, I’m sure we’ll look at attractions and activities which will even surprise and interest the locals. With so much to see and do I have my work cut out to present it all to you in an easily-digestible, relevant manner! So here’s how we’ll do it.... Being the UK’s second most popular destination for a weekend break, it seems like an itinerary for a short break wouldn’t go amiss.  I will tell you how I would spend 2 to 3 days in Edinburgh with a memorable mix of must-sees and insider tips with room for flexibility depending on individual interests. Has that awakened your curiosity? Do a highland fling to my Short Break In Edinburgh page. If you like to do your own planning – respect! I have put together a page on the top ten tourist attractions in Edinburgh so you can see what might have you applying for Scottish citizenship and what might put you off your haggis. The key is – if you only have 2 or 3 days in Edinburgh, don’t just follow the crowds, do what interests you! That’s precisely why I’ve also written a page for those with energy to burn and for fans of history and culture. We are here to cater for all tastes. Of course, this wouldn’t be edinburgh-insider.com without insider tips. Not only will I be giving you priceless information on how to make the most of your time and money, I have also put together the best activities and attractions for those who want to get off the beaten track, discover hidden gems and experience the places only the locals know about; the real Edinburgh, away from the crowds. The Insider Tips page will provide information on how to get to these great places using public transport or a hire car and suggest the best time for a visit. After that....it’s up to you. It’s your adventure! Just to whet your appetite, here is a tea-spoon-sized taste of what Edinburgh has to offer... Got bags of energy? Hike your way to the very top of our extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat and along the Salisbury Crags for breathtaking views of the city, the Firth of Forth Estuary and the Pentland Hills to the south of Edinburgh. Like the Royals? Take in Holyrood Palace at the foot of the Royal Mile where the Queen spends the first week of her summer holidays. Then check out her little sailing boat the Royal Yacht Britannia at Ocean Terminal.  Into ghosts and ghouls? Grab some Dutch courage and head to the Edinburgh Dungeons before going on one of Edinburgh’s fantastic ghost tours around the old town with a seriously sinister guide.
Just here to relax and recharge the old batteries? Gaze up at Edinburgh Castle from Princes Street Gardens or find the perfect spot in the acres of parkland at the Meadows and sunbathe (if you’re lucky!) with the locals. Party-animal? Hell-raiser? You’ll fit in well in Scotland! Soak up the atmosphere in the Grassmarket with a cool pint of the good stuff before letting your hair down in one of Edinburgh’s countless bouncing bars or clubs...
